The UNICEF country program in Burundi aims to improve the lives of children and women in the following key areas: Child and maternal health, Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, Water, sanitation and hygiene, Social Policy and Advocacy, Adolescent empowerment and community resilience, and Humanitarian response.

How can you make a difference?

UNICEF Burundi is seeking qualified candidates to ensure accurate and timely processing of procurement requisitions (Sales Orders), supports procurement and contracting processes including drafting of tender documents, purchase orders/contracts and follows through to closure of the order, with the overall goal of meeting the needs and requirements for UNICEF programmes.

Key functions, accountabilities, and related duties:

 

The new team member will focus on planning, procurement and contracting, as well as alternative delivery mechanisms and procurement services, in support of supply chain service delivery and response.

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities
  1. Education: Completion of secondary education is required, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to supply chain, business administration, contract/commercial law, or another relevant technical field.
  2. Work Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant administrative experience in supply chain management or a commercial context is required.
  3. Skills:
      • Thorough knowledge of a range of specialized topics, including relevant supply chain processes, partnership mechanisms, rules and regulations related to public sector procurement.
      • Experience using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other UNICEF office tools.
      • Demonstrated understanding of the relevant supply chain processes and ability to consistently apply relevant policies, procedures and good practices in the daily work. Good judgement in order to handle complex cases including considerations for exceptions.
      • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, suppliers and colleagues and gain the assistance and cooperation of others in a team endeavor.
      • Ability to establish priorities and plan his/her own work and plan, coordinate and monitor the work of those under his/her supervision.
      • Ability to draft clear and concise reports or rationale for supply related decisions on key issues. 
  4. Language Requirements: Fluency in French is required. 

Desirables:

  1. Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (English, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish) or a local language
  2. Understanding of development and humanitarian work is an advantage.
  3. Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
