Job Description

The Office of Staff Security (OSS) is responsible for providing leadership on safety/security policy management and Mission operational support to enable the safest and most effective implementation and delivery of IOM programs and activities. 

 

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (COM), and under the direct supervision of the National Security Officer, the Security Assistant will be responsible for actively assisting the IOM Burundi security unit in  all aspects of staff safety and security management in Burundi . The LSA will be expected to supporting the implementation of appropriate safety and security management procedures that will effectively address issues that could and have impact on all safety, security and the protection of IOM personnel and assets, including programme implementation in the country of Burundi .

Key Deliverables

  1. Support all  IOM security related activities in Burundi in coordination with the National Security Officer in Burundi, as per the OSS Burundi structure

  2. Support the verification and preparation of all security-related mission documents, and coordinate security-linked logistics, escort arrangements, and any other security requirements and submit to IOM National Security Officer for review and further processing.

  3. Support the National Security Officer in Burundi by providing regular updates, information and trends in the field for all matters related to safety and security.

  4. Carry out all OSS administrative matters including asset management, custodian records, issuing and tracking of security assets and support field mission with all the necessary equipment available within OSS custody. 

  5. Support the National Security Officer in filing and updating  security protocols and mandatory security requirements in Burundi  (staff list, Call tree, warden system, mission tracking ,inventory list .etc. 

  6. Assist in the absence of the National Security Officer in providing regular briefings for all the new arrivals, visitors, mission participants. And Provide them with the recent advisories and security updates.

  7. Maintain good relationship with UNDSS, Host government authorities and other UN Country Security Focal Points.

  8.  Provide basic support to the National Security Officer in the processing of  security incidents within the area of responsibility.  while ensuring strict confidentiality. 

  9. Perform any additional duties as requested by the IOM National Security Officer.

Professional Qualifications

Service-Providing Industries Education 1.Associate degree or equivalent in social science, administration, law enforcement or accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience 2. High School Degree in the above field with four years of relevant experience. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Experience Experience in working with an international organization or the United Nations. Knowledge of UN / INGOs security management Experience in using security and communication Equipment including VHF/HF/Mototrbo radios. Good knowledge of the Security, political and social of Burundi. Skills Computer literacy, Good knowledge of commonly used applications such as MS. Word, PowerPoint and outlook. Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with others with diverse backgrounds. Ability and Willingness to respond to emergencies after working hours, weekends and official holidays Languages All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish). For this position, fluency in French is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of English, Kiswahili and Kirundi is desirable. Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
