ROLE PURPOSE

The position holder will collaborate with the Partner to implement the Combatting Child Labour project in Geita. This is a 3 years project aiming at reducing the worst forms of child labour (CL) and protection risks to children (10-17) and youth (18-24) - especially women in the mining sector targeting 10 wards of Geita region.

 

The project coordinator provides overall management and coordination to the project, responsible for the day-to-day implementation and quality control of the activities, developing the Detail Implementation Plan (DIP), Annual Work Plans (AWP), and necessary reports. The project coordinator has oversight on delivering and reporting of project outcomes, monitoring overall compliance with donor requirements, and making the best use of available resources. The project coordinator engages with the government and other key stakeholders at the district and regional level. He/ she identifies needs and raises concerns with Program Implementation Area Manager -Lake zone for further support and expertise

Key Deliverables

  • Responsible for project implementation including quality assurance, reporting, oversight of M&E activities and communications in line with the project proposal and donor agreement;
  • Coordinate quality implementation of activities on economic empowerment, child protection and protection systems strengthening, promotion of education, Gender and Child rights.
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship and clear communication with key collaborators, including implementing partner, the local government authorities (LGA) and other development partners and relevant stakeholders;
  • Ensure effective monitoring and supportive supervision of partners activities as per supportive supervision plan developed.
  • Ensures Gender is mainstreamed into all project related activities in the districts and maintain gender sensitivity towards staff, partners’ organizations and program participants.
  • Effectively manages project resources including the timely utilization of the project funds;  
  • Ensure delivery, monitoring and evaluation of all activities and related outputs as per Results Framework and Implementation Plan;
  • Represents Plan at district, stakeholder forums, consultative sessions, or conferences related to Child rights and protection, Gender, Youth Economic Empowerment, and education.
  • Prepare and submit to PIAM high quality activity plans, weekly updates, quarterly and annual narrative report for all activity.
  • Provide effective coordination and management of partnerships as well as with all other actors with a focus on achieving desired results in line with desired project impact.
  • Support timely communications of project activity plans with project partners and all other stakeholders to ensure smooth running of the project.
  • Work closely with zonal M&E officer to prepare and assess monitoring and evaluation reports to identify gaps, strengths/weakness, identify lessons learned and use the knowledge gained to guide and improve implementation.
  • Develop monthly activity implementation plan with project partners and monitor activities implementation and provide updates as required.

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities
  • Bachelor`s degree in Social work / community development/social science/ development studies.
  • At least 5 years practical experience in implementation of donor funded social related projects, and working with partners.
  • Training – key exposure to courses on:  Project management, Child protection, Monitoring and evaluation, partnership management; Human Rights Conventions, CRC, gender transformative programming, Social Behaviour change communication.
  • Solid work experience with Government stakeholders specifically, social welfare, community development and education and Youth and Labour at both district and regional levels.
  • Experience of working with children and communities and managing child-related programs and projects would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the Tanzanian context for local and international civil society.
  • Familiarity with challenges facing children access to education and overall rights and emerging priorities

 

Essential:

  • Experience working with children and an ability to apply safeguarding, ethics, and ‘do no harm’ principles
  • Demonstrable experience in advocacy, especially around gender equality and child rights .
  • A thorough understanding of the Convention of the Rights of the Child, Convention for the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and other human rights instruments.
  • A thorough understanding of the various tools and techniques for gender transformative approaches in a project cycle including gender analysis (Marker), budgeting, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent coordination, planning and design skills
