Job Description

The Centre for Domestic and Development (CDTD) is a national non-governmental, women rights organization in Kenya that has spearheaded economic empowerment of women through professional training of women domestic workers since 2001. CDTD also has interventions to respond to trafficking, refugees and internal displacement affecting marginalised girls and women as well as survivors of gender-based violence (SGBV) including a shelter/ safe house.

TAGS is the Center for Domestic Training’s (CDTD) protection program that is dedicated to providing abused girls and young women with services necessary for their recovery and social reintegration using a 4R approach of: Reach, Rescue, Rehabilitate and Reintegrate.

Role Purpose

The Nurse will provide comprehensive medical care and support to TAGS residents, ensuring physical health, emotional wellbeing, and compliance with healthcare and safeguarding standards. The role requires a compassionate and professional individual committed to working with vulnerable women and girls in a supportive environment.

Performance standards

  • Provide quality, timely, and accurate clinical and narrative reports on health interventions and outcomes.
  •  Maintain proper medical records and document best practices, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Adhere to duty rosters, work plans, timelines, and service delivery schedules.
  • Ensure accountable and cost-effective use of medical supplies, medications, and project resources.
  • Uphold professional ethics, confidentiality, and organizational values in all interactions.
  • Comply fully with safeguarding, child protection, and PSEA policies, including mandatory reporting.

Key Deliverables

  • Provide primary medical assessment, treatment, and monitoring of shelter residents.
  • Develop and implement individual care plans and follow-ups.
  • Administer medication and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Offer health education and preventive care, including sexual and reproductive health awareness.
  • Work closely with counselors and social workers to ensure integrated care.
  • Respond to medical emergencies promptly and professionally.
  • Coordinate referrals to hospitals and other healthcare facilities when required.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safeguarding and protection policies, maintaining confidentiality and dignity of residents.
  • Conduct regular hygiene, nutrition, and wellness check-ins.
  • Support capacity-building sessions for staff on basic health, emergency response, and safeguarding concerns.
  • Participate in case management meetings and contribute to survivor-centered care planning.

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities

1) Degree or diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.

2)Valid nursing practice license from KMTC.

3)Minimum 3 years of nursing experience, preferably working with women, children, vulnerable populations, or in a health facility setting.

4)Training in safeguarding, trauma-informed care, GBV management, or mental health is an added advantage.

5)Ability to handle sensitive cases with empathy, confidentiality, and professionalism.

6)Strong communication and record-keeping skills.

7)Mature, emotionally resilient, and committed to working in a crisis-care environment.
