Company / Background:

We are seeking an Internal Controller for our client, a major retail company in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The position is based in Kinshasa and reports directly to the Finance Manager.

This strategic role includes key missions such as budget monitoring and financial planning, data and reporting reliability, cost and margin analysis, as well as internal control and process compliance. The Internal Controller will actively contribute to the control of financial risks, compliance with procedures and optimization of the company's performance, by providing precise analyses and relevant recommendations.

Key Deliverables

  • Ensure financial monitoring and contribute to the company's budget planning.
  • Verify the accuracy of financial data and the reliability of periodic reports intended for management.
  • Participate in the development of annual budgets and budget reviews in collaboration with the various departments, taking into account the specificities of the different operational units and geographical areas.
  • Carry out regular budget monitoring by comparing actual expenditure with forecasts and analyzing significant variances.
  • Review and validate information from general and analytical accounting, including provisions, costs and cash flows, and provide a summary analysis.
  • Alert operational managers in the event of budget overruns or identified financial risks.
  • Track financial performance and analyze costs and margins by product or service, identifying variances related to price, volume, product mix or sales composition.
  • Contribute to the improvement of internal processes and ensure compliance with procedures and internal standards.
  • Identify and assess the tax and regulatory risks of operations, measuring their legal and accounting implications.

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities
  •  Master's degree in business economics, statistics, accounting
  • 5 years of experience in finance
  • Fluent written and spoken English and French. * Good knowledge of relevant accounting, legal and tax aspects
  • Computer proficiency; advanced Excel and Powerpoint, experience with financial reporting tools (i.e. JD Edwards, Cognos, HFM, etc.)
