Key Deliverables

Team Leadership and Capability

  • Recruit, onboard and retain team leaders and field sales agents across the assigned region.
  • Deliver initial and ongoing product, sales and compliance training so that every agent understands the product, the target market and the duties attaching to the sale.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of every agent in the region and ensure agents are properly appointed and, where applicable, licensed before they sell.
  • Coach through regular field accompaniment, structured feedback and performance improvement plans.

Sales Delivery

  • Achieve and exceed regional targets for gross customer acquisition, active policies and premium collected.
  • Plan territory coverage, agent deployment and daily activity levels to sustain productivity.
  • Review sales performance by location at least monthly, and redeploy agents away from under performing sites to higher-yielding ones — keeping a live map of active, trial and retired selling locations in the region.
  • Track daily and weekly performance by agent and team leader, diagnose underperformance and act on it.
  • Identify, evaluate and open the highest-potential selling locations, catchment areas, partner sites and customer segments within the region — selecting sites on the basis of customer footfall, target market fit, mobile money and network coverage and the permissions or landlord and partner agreements required to sell there.

Sales Quality, Conduct and Fraud Control

  • Ensure every sale is made to an eligible customer who understands what they have bought, and that a key features statement is provided at the point of sale.
  • Ensure all marketing and verbal representations are clear, fair and not misleading, and that customerfacing material names the underwriting insurer.
  • Monitor early-lapse, mis-sale and complaint indicators as leading signals of sales quality problems.
  • Detect, escalate and investigate suspected agent fraud, including false registrations and premium handling irregularities, and apply sanctions consistently.
  • Ensure customer complaints are captured, resolved and escalated within required timelines.

Reporting and Cost Control

  • Submit accurate and timely field reports on sales, agent activity, customer feedback and operational issues.
  • Manage the regional field budget, commissions and incentives to agreed cost-to-acquire ratios.
  • Report weekly to the line manager on performance, HR and finance-related matters, and share regional insights, learnings and opportunities with head office.
  • Provide market intelligence on competitor activity, pricing and customer needs.
  • Report platform and mobile-application issues promptly to the technical team and work with them to resolve them.

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Finance or a related field; a diploma with strong relevant experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of field sales management experience in insurance, microfinance, mobile money, FMCG or telecommunications, including at least 2 years managing team leaders or supervisors.
  • Demonstrated track record of achieving field sales targets through a large, distributed agent force.
  • Knowledge of microinsurance, mobile money or agent-network distribution is a strong advantage.

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills and competencies.

  • Sound understanding of sales conduct standards and the fair treatment of customers.
  • Strong analytical skills — able to work from agent-level performance data and act on it.
  •  Excellent communication and coaching skills in English and Luganda or another widely spoken Ugandan language.
  • Demonstrable personal integrity, given the cash and commission exposure in the role.
  • Willingness to travel extensively within the assigned region.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and mobile-based reporting tools.
