Job Description

Technical expertise to support EIs and sectoral Ministries, the GCP/BDI/056/PAF Project team and Implementing Partners (PMOs) in the process of establishing the Roadmap for the surveillance of foodborne diseases linked to the consumption of bushmeat, in particular zoonotic diseases.

Key Deliverables

He/she will be required to perform the following tasks:
• Inventory the main species of wild animals that are hunted and consumed in Burundi;
• Map the supply chains: hunting areas, transport practices, types of handling of game from hunting areas to preparation and processing, types of preservation and methods of marketing of hunted game;
• Analyze the health risks associated with the consumption of bushmeat at the national level, in order to formulate operational and multi-sectoral recommendations; 
• Evaluate critical points of contamination using the "Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points" method, better known by the acronym (HACCP);
• Produce a biological and zoonotic risk matrix based on zoonotic diseases;
• Propose reduction and surveillance measures.

Professional Qualifications

Industry Qualification
Veterinary/Animal Science Doctorate in veterinary medicine (Bachelor's degree + 6 years) + specialization in epidemiology, veterinary public health or equivalent; • Have at least five years of relevant professional experience in disease surveillance management and in the management of health emergencies in animal health, ideally related to zoonotic diseases; • Fluent knowledge (level C) of French and intermediate knowledge of English (level B); • Burundian nationality or resident of the country with a valid work permit.
