Job Description

For a major player in the industrial and mining equipment sector in the DRC, I am looking for a Transit Officer (M/F) .

You will play a key role in managing the transit and customs clearance of equipment, vehicles, and spare parts. You will be responsible for ensuring documentary compliance, traceability of flows, and optimizing deadlines and costs, while maintaining high-quality relationships with freight forwarders, customs authorities, and external partners.

Key Deliverables

1. Operational Monitoring of Transit Activities

  • Follow the customs clearance and transfer of materials according to procedures and legislation.
  • Check and validate all documents required for customs clearance.
  • Prepare and submit complete files to freight forwarders within the required timeframe.
  • Check the accuracy of the classifications and customs regimes applied.
  • Verify the conformity of the data in the customs system and report any anomalies.

2. Cost, Time and Compliance Management

  • Update the customs operations and fees tracking file.
  • Follow up with freight forwarders to ensure deadlines are met and penalties are avoided.
  • Check receipts, VAT and freight forwarder fees according to regulations.
  • Monitor and address damages with the relevant authorities.

3. Document Management and Archiving

  • Monitor the opening of import licenses and their compliance.
  • Organize and archive transit files in secure cabinets.
  • Keep sub-files complete and compliant with customs requirements.
  • Update the Customs Register and clear customs bonds.

4. Calculation of Transit Cost Price

  • Collect the elements for calculating the transit cost price.
  • Participate in the preparation of the cost price sheet in collaboration with the accounting department.

5. Internal and External Relations

  • Collaborating with the Sales Administration, Purchasing and Logistics teams for the exchange of information.
  • Interacting with freight forwarders, control bodies and DGDA.
  • Report any problems encountered to management.

Performance indicators include the average customs clearance time, obtaining verification certificates and inspection reports, the file compliance rate, adherence to deadlines for transmitting and following up with freight forwarders, the rate of incidents resulting in customs penalties, the gap between estimated and actual costs, the quality of internal collaboration, and the accuracy and reliability of data in tracking tools.

The main interfaces for this position involve internal departments such as Sales Administration, Purchasing, and Logistics, as well as external partners: freight forwarders, inspection bodies, and Congolese customs authorities.

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities
  • You hold a degree at Bac +3 level or higher in Logistics, International Trade, Customs or equivalent.
  • You have significant experience in transit, customs clearance and import-export operations, ideally in an industrial or mining environment.
  • You are proficient in Congolese customs legislation, SYDONIA World procedures and the various customs regimes (IM4, IM7, ATS, EX1, etc.).
  • You demonstrate rigor, organization and an excellent sense of operational follow-up.
  • You have good communication skills and know how to maintain effective relationships with freight forwarders, authorities and external partners.
  • You are results-oriented, able to manage priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • You are proficient in office software (Excel, Word, Outlook) and document tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of professional English is an asset.
