Job Description

Save the Children works in Burundi in partnership with the Burundian government and local stakeholders to promote a better future for children. We have experience across the country. Our main areas of intervention are child protection, prevention and response to gender-based violence, child rights governance, health, and nutrition, in both humanitarian and development contexts.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The psychologist will work under the direct supervision of the Project Supervisor, and will benefit from the technical support of the CP/GBV (Child Protection / Gender-Based Violence) Manager. 

The psychologist will also be responsible for supervising protection activities carried out in refugee camps. In this capacity, they will provide technical support to community facilitators, particularly in the identification, assessment, and referral of protection cases to appropriate services. They will work to strengthen their capacities and ensure the quality of psychosocial interventions in the field.

Key Deliverables

  • Carry out psychological assessments of identified children.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Organize individual, family or group therapy sessions.
  • Lead psychosocial support activities (therapeutic games, art therapy, etc.).
  • Train and supervise community facilitators in psychological first aid.
  • Document cases followed and produce regular reports.
  • Collaborate with UNICEF teams and other partners in the field on site activities.
  • Collaborate with case manager assistants in data collection, compilation and sharing of data; 
  • Produce regular reports according to the internal reporting schedule which will be established with the Coordinator and the MEAL team.

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities
  • University degree in clinical psychology or child psychology.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a humanitarian or similar context.
  • Knowledge of psychosocial support approaches in emergency situations.
  • Fluency in French and Kiswahili.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and under pressure.
  • Listening skills, empathy, discretion and professionalism
    Level 3 - The responsibilities of this position involve frequent (e.g., at least once a week) or intensive (e.g., four or more days per month) contact with children or young people, as part of national programs.
