Paradigm Packaging (Pty) Ltd. is a leading manufacturing company known for its commitment to quality and innovation. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Operations Supervisor to join our team and contribute to our continued success.

 

As a Operations Supervisor at Paradigm Packaging (Pty) Ltd., you will be a key member of our production team, responsible for leading and coordinating our manufacturing processes. You will play a vital role in ensuring that our production operations run efficiently, safely, and with a focus on maintaining the highest quality standards.

Position Purpose

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for the overall coordination, supervision, planning and implementation of operational activities at the Paradigm Packaging Branch.

The position will oversee all operational departments and functions, including production, maintenance, engineering support, warehousing, stock movement, reconditioning activities, quality-related operational controls, housekeeping and general plant operations.

The Operations Supervisor is expected to take ownership of the day-to-day running of the operation while also planning ahead to ensure that production capacity, equipment availability, manpower, materials and resources are aligned with customer demand and business objectives.

The role requires a highly hands-on individual who is able to identify operational problems, develop practical solutions, implement improvements and ensure that agreed actions are completed within the required timelines.

Management Expectation

This is not purely an administrative or monitoring position.

The Operations Supervisor is expected to actively manage the operation, identify problems, develop solutions and implement those solutions.

Key Deliverables

Overall Operational Management

  • Take responsibility for the effective day-to-day operation of the Durban facility.
  • Coordinate all operational departments to ensure that they function as one integrated operation.
  • Ensure that production, maintenance, warehouse and support activities are aligned with the company’s daily, weekly and monthly requirements.
  • Monitor operational performance throughout the working day.
  • Identify operational constraints and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure production priorities are communicated clearly to all relevant departments.
  • Ensure resources are allocated effectively according to operational requirements.
  • Maintain discipline, accountability and operational standards across all departments under his supervision.
  • Escalate significant operational risks or concerns to senior management immediately.
  • Ensure management instructions and operational decisions are properly implemented and followed through to completion.

Production Planning and Implementation

  • Develop and coordinate daily, weekly and monthly operational plans.
  • Translate sales requirements and customer orders into achievable production schedules.
  • Plan manpower, machine availability, raw materials and other resources required to meet production targets.
  • Ensure production plans are communicated to all relevant departments.
  • Monitor actual production against planned production.
  • Identify potential production delays before they affect customer deliveries.
  • Implement recovery plans when production falls behind schedule.
  • Coordinate production requirements between the different manufacturing and operational areas.
  • Review outstanding orders and ensure that priorities are correctly allocated.
  • Ensure finished goods are made available according to customer delivery requirements.
  • Monitor plant capacity and identify potential bottlenecks.
  • Make recommendations to management regarding improvements to production efficiency or capacity.

Maintenance Management

  • Ensure all manufacturing equipment, machinery and infrastructure are maintained in good working condition.
  • Develop and implement a structured preventative maintenance programme.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance is carried out according to schedule.
  • Monitor machine breakdowns and ensure repairs are prioritised appropriately.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities to minimise production downtime.
  • Ensure maintenance personnel properly investigate recurring equipment failures.
  • Maintain records of breakdowns, repairs and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Monitor machine reliability and identify equipment presenting repeated operational problems.
  • Ensure critical spare parts and maintenance consumables are identified and controlled.
  • Coordinate external technicians, contractors and service providers when required.
  • Ensure maintenance work is completed safely and according to company standards.
  • Investigate excessive machine downtime and implement corrective action.
  • Recommend repairs, modifications, upgrades or capital expenditure where required.
  • Ensure maintenance areas, tools, equipment and spare parts are properly controlled.

Operational Improvement and Implementation

  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, efficiency and cost control.
  • Develop practical improvement plans.
  • Assign responsibilities and deadlines for improvement projects.
  • Implement approved operational projects.
  • Monitor progress against agreed implementation timelines.
  • Follow through until agreed actions have been fully completed.
  • Review existing processes and recommend more efficient operating methods.
  • Reduce unnecessary downtime, waste, rework and operational delays.
  • Implement corrective actions arising from operational meetings, audits or management reviews.
  • Introduce improved systems of control where weaknesses are identified.
  • Support management with plant improvement and optimisation projects.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement throughout the operation.

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities
  • Experience in Operations.
  • Relevant supervisory or management qualification would be advantageous.
  • Strong PC acumen.

Experience

The successful candidate should ideally have:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a supervisory or operational leadership position.
  • Strong experience managing production operations.
  • Practical experience managing or coordinating industrial maintenance.
  • Experience with production planning.
  • Experience implementing operational improvements.
  • Experience managing employees in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance systems.
  • Exposure to quality, food-safety, environmental or ISO management systems would be advantageous.
  • Experience within plastics manufacturing, blow moulding, industrial packaging or a similar manufacturing environment would be highly advantageous.

Package & Remuneration

Salary : R20 000 - R30 000 (Based on qualifications and experience)
