Job Description
The WCS Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) program is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to oversee the development, implementation, coordination, and administration of a landscape strategy within the Kabobo-Luama Landscape (KLL), encompassing the Kabobo Wildlife Reserve and the Luama Wildlife Reserve.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in site-based conservation and management, a strong background in community-based conservation approaches, and an interest in the interrelationship between wildlife, habitats, climate change, and local communities. This is a full-time position requiring the management of a team of several staff members, as well as close coordination and cooperation with local authorities. This role is expected to provide representative and strategic leadership with donor partners supporting WCS investments in the Kabobo-Luama Landscape.

The Kabobo-Luama Landscape Director will assume the following key responsibilities in full coordination with and supported by the WCS DRC Management Team and the WCS Central Africa Regional Team:
- Lead the KLL management team in project and grant management, including assisting with proposal development, coordinating timely reporting, and ensuring compliance with donor regulations.
- Working in close coordination with the WCS DRC senior management team and the Central Africa regional technical team to review the strategic approach used in the reserve.
- Provide technical support to field teams in developing the annual work plan and in implementing existing work plans.
- Develop and professionalize KLL's capacity for data management, conservation, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and technology
- Monitor the effectiveness and impact of conservation interventions, ensuring continuous improvement and high scalability.
- Coordinate and supervise the WCS community outreach and conservation team and the research team.
- Working with international and national teams and organizations to raise awareness of promoting wildlife conservation, sustainable management of natural resources and conflict resolution between humans and wildlife, and to address specific land-use management issues, including mineral extraction.
- Advise on development priorities and collaborate with other senior managers to plan and implement activities related to health, human rights, education, etc.
- Work with WCS staff to integrate socio-economic and land use/tenure data into relevant GIS databases to contribute to overall natural resource, protected area and zoning plans.
- As a senior member of the WCS DRC program team, participate in strategic meetings and advance identified tasks to ensure the smooth running of the program.
- At the request of the Country Director of SCQ-DRC, represents SCB at meetings at the national and international level
Professional Qualifications

| Architecture & Design | A master's degree (or higher education level) in community conservation, natural resource management or other relevant experience in African conservation. Experience working on conservation projects as well as living and working in remote areas, in difficult terrain conditions. Work experience in the Central African region would be an asset. Strong program and project management skills based on at least 5 years of experience in a relevant role Experience working within interdisciplinary and multicultural teams and managing several large activities simultaneously; proven ability to achieve project objectives and goals Experience gained in managing projects funded by international donors, with several project partners and various preferred project elements. Experience in gender integration and demonstrated ability to encourage the active participation of diverse stakeholders including local communities, traditional leaders, research partners and field staff. Experience in implementing monitoring and evaluation frameworks. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated a high level of competence in writing and revising professional technical reports and other written products. Fluency in French and English is required, and Swahili is an asset. |
