Job Description

As the Head of East Africa, you will lead the strategic and operational development of Ethica’s business across Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda. Your role is to ensure strong regional performance, effective commercial execution, alignment with Group objectives and to be the champion of Ethica’s Entrepreneurial culture. Key Deliverables

1. Regional Operational Leadership

  •  Drive the achievement of regional performance goals, including P&L targets and country/team executional KPIs.
  •  Oversee and support Country Managers, ensuring operational and commercial excellence across markets.
  •  Ensure the implementation and compliance with Group policies, processes, and standards.
  •  Collaborate with regional and global functions (Marketing, Finance, HR, Regulatory, Medical, Compliance).
  •  Serve as the primary representative with government bodies, institutions, and key stakeholders.

2. Distributor & Partner Management

  • Oversee relationships with local distributors to ensure:
  • Strong ROI for Ethica’s business
  • Effective joint business planning and commercial management
  • Optimal stock levels and product availability
  • Efficient ordering and supply chain processes
  • Equitable product distribution across the region
  • Robust receivables and credit management
  • Track distributor performance through KPIs and lead corrective action plans when needed.

3. Cross-Functional Integration

  •  Finance: Supervise budget adherence, validate financial reports, and ensure timely payments.
  •  HR: Partner with HR on policy deployment, talent development, and fostering a healthy work culture.
  •  Quality & Compliance: Enforce SOPs, regulatory requirements, and internal quality systems.


4. Regional Business Development

  •  Identify and assess new market opportunities and drive implementation.
  •  Act as the local lead for Group-led business development projects.
  •  Support the development of strategic country and regional business plans.
  •  Monitor market trends and competitor activity to inform strategic decision- making.

5. Representation & Governance

  •  Represent Ethica in interactions with authorities, institutions, and external partners.
  •  Serve as a brand ambassador for Ethica in the region.
  •  Ensure timely and transparent communication with headquarters through regular updates and reporting.
  •  Actively contribute to leadership forums and regional governance bodies.

6. Culture & Leadership

  •  Champion Ethica’s entrepreneurial and purpose-driven culture across the region.
  •  Foster a spirit of ownership, innovation, and accountability within local teams.
  •  Act as a role model for the company’s values — encouraging bold thinking, collaboration, feedback, transparency and continuous improvement.
  •  Build a strong leadership pipeline by mentoring talent and promoting a growth mindset.

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities
  • 8–10+ years of experience in operational or business leadership roles within East Africa.
  •  Proven experience in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, or FMCG sectors.
  •  Demonstrated success in managing complex, multi-country operations.
  •  Strong leadership and relationship-building skills across cultures and functions.
  •  Fluent in English; French proficiency is an advantage.
  •  Entrepreneurial spirit, high personal integrity, and strong commitment to results.
