Key Deliverables

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and supervision of all project activities related to VSLAs, cooperatives, producers, and processing units.
  • Ensure activities are aligned with project objectives, timelines, and donor requirements.
  • Develop detailed work plans and activity schedules in collaboration with field teams.
  • Lead and mentor field officers and facilitators involved in community mobilization and capacity building.
  • Ensure quality and consistency in training content and delivery.
  • Facilitate regular coordination meetings and performance reviews.
  • Guide communities and groups through participatory needs assessments, group diagnostics, and action planning processes.
  • Promote inclusive approaches, ensuring participation of women, youth, and vulnerable groups.
  • Design and coordinate training programs to develop: Technical skills (production, processing, value addition), organizational and governance capacity, financial literacy and business planning, identify and engage technical service providers or trainers where needed.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, NGOs, government departments, and private sector actors to strengthen service delivery and sustainability.
  • Facilitate market linkages and access to financial institutions or input suppliers.
  • Develop and apply tools to monitor progress of VSLAs, cooperatives, and producer and transformation units.
  • Ensure timely and quality data collection, analysis, and reporting on project indicators.
  • Document best practices, lessons learned, and case studies for knowledge sharing.
  • Identify and address challenges or conflicts affecting group performance or project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, accountability, and conflict sensitivity standards.

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Rural Economy, Food Security, Community development or any other relevant field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in the execution and coordination of community development projects, including at least two (2) years of experience in the design, planning, implementation, supervision and reporting of support programs for smallholder farmers and food system transformation.
  • Skilled in engaging diverse community members and facilitating inclusive dialogue.
  • Able to lead participatory planning processes that empower local actors to co-create solutions.
  • Solid understanding of VSLA methodology, cooperative governance, agribusiness, value chains, and small-scale processing.
  • Familiarity with climate-resilient and sustainable production practices is a plus.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor field teams, ensure accountability, and coordinate multi-stakeholder efforts.
  • Proficient in project cycle management, including budgeting, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Comfortable working with community members, local authorities, private sector actors, and donors.
  • Ability to assess group dynamics, diagnose organizational weaknesses, and propose appropriate support strategies.
  • Familiarity with tools and methods for tracking capacity improvements, group performance, and livelihoods outcomes.
  • Commitment to gender equality, social inclusion, and rights-based approaches in group structuring and capacity development.
  • Open to adapting methods based on context and able to introduce innovative, locally appropriate solutions.
