Key Deliverables

Framework Development & Implementation:

  • Design, implement, and continuously enhance the Bank's ESG and Sustainability Risk Management Framework, policies, and procedures, ensuring alignment with best practices, regulatory requirements, and internal strategic objectives.
  • Develop methodologies and tools for identifying, assessing, and quantifying ESG risks in lending, investment, and operational activities.
  • Establish clear ESG risk appetite statements, limits, and monitoring metrics.

ESG Risk Assessment & Due Diligence:

  • Conduct in-depth ESG risk assessments and due diligence for new and existing clients, projects, and transactions across various sectors.
  • Evaluate clients'  ESG performance, policies, and practices, identifying potential risks such as climate transition risk, physical climate risk, biodiversity loss, human rights violations, labor standards, corruption, and governance weaknesses.
  • Provide expert opinions and recommendations on ESG risk mitigation strategies to business units and credit committees.

Portfolio Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Monitor the ESG risk profile of the bank's portfolios (e.g., loan book, investment portfolio), identifying concentration and emerging risks.
  • Develop and produce regular, comprehensive ESG risk reports for senior management, risk committees (e.g., Enterprise Risk Committee, ALCO), and the Board, highlighting key trends, exposures, and compliance status.
  • Contribute to the bank's external ESG disclosures and sustainability reports, ensuring accuracy and transparency regarding ESG risk management practices.

Regulatory Compliance & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Stay abreast of evolving national and international ESG regulations, standards, and industry guidelines relevant to financial institutions.
  • Ensure the bank's ESG risk management practices comply with all applicable regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Prepare for and support regulatory examinations and external audits related to ESG risk.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders (e.g., Credit, Treasury, Compliance, Legal, Product Development) to embed ESG considerations across the bank.
  • Potentially engage with external stakeholders, including regulators, NGOs, rating agencies, and industry forums, on ESG risk matters.

Training & Awareness:

  • Develop and deliver training programs for relevant Bank staff (e.g., relationship managers, credit analysts) on ESG risk identification, assessment, and integration into their daily responsibilities.
  • Promote a strong ESG risk culture throughout the Bank.

Stress Testing & Scenario Analysis:

  • Contribute to the development and execution of climate-related stress tests and scenario analysis to assess the bank's resilience to various climate transition and physical risks.
  • Analyze the potential financial impact of different climate scenarios on credit portfolios and other asset classes.

Strategic Support &  Advisory:

  • Provide expert advice and guidance to business units on managing specific ESG risks and identifying related business opportunities (e.g., green financing).
  • Collaborate with the Bank's Business and Operational teams to ensure coherence between risk management and overall sustainability strategy.
  • Participate in due diligence for new products or services to ensure ESG risks are adequately considered from inception.

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities
  • Bachelor's in environmental science, Sustainability, Finance, Economics, Business administration, commerce, Law, or a related field. ESG certifications are a significant advantage.
  • 3+ years of experience in risk management, sustainability, or corporate social responsibility within the financial services industry, or a related sector with strong exposure to ESG issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing risk management frameworks, particularly with an ESG focus.
  • Understanding of ESG concepts, frameworks, and relevant regulatory developments
  • Experience in credit analysis with an ESG lens is highly desirable.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and build risk models.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and Microsoft Excel
  • Proactive, self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • High ethical standards and a genuine passion for sustainability.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to a rapidly evolving regulatory and market landscape.


Communication: Communication skills are required to perform the job efficiently and effectively

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ESG concepts clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences (technical and non-technical).
  • Strong presentation and reporting skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across different departments and seniority levels.
