Job Description
The Community Engagement Officer contributes directly to the successful implementation of the Vancouver Principles by leading programs that leverage the potential of welcoming communities. They collaborate with staff from other departments and local agencies to identify needs, coordinate community outreach activities, build effective relationships, and facilitate access to community resources. All of this contributes to the Dallaire Institute's achievement of results in the target countries, specifically those involved in the PVPSSA project. The officer will report to the PVPSSA Country Project Manager and work closely with the Africa Centre of Excellence (ACoE) team, global representatives, and country teams.

Community Interaction • Organize and facilitate community dialogues involving community members, security sector actors, youth, and civil society organizations (CSOs). • Participate in briefings with the Dallaire Institute and local community staff on preparatory work and event design. • Collaborate with the project manager and other points of contact to select participants for community dialogues. • Participate in drafting and revising discussion questions. • Implement necessary accountability tools to gather feedback from beneficiaries, such as focus groups, feedback forms, and complaints forms. • Prepare a comprehensive post-action report following each community dialogue session. • Provide activity data for donor reporting. • Develop and implement an effective local community engagement strategy for the benefit of the community and the PVPSSA project. This community engagement includes general support for the Dallaire Institute's mission and donors from community groups, including businesses, civil society organizations, and faith-based organizations. • Plan and implement initiatives that foster closer ties between the Dallaire Institute, local partners, and the broader community. • Serve as the primary liaison between members and groups in the local community and the Dallaire Institute. Provide initial orientation to participants in the community sponsorship program and support them throughout the process. Contribute to resolving any issues that may arise. Monitoring and Reporting: • Conduct follow-up visits and collect data to ensure community engagement activities are on track. • Document progress, challenges encountered, and corrective actions to support decision-making and improve performance.• Provide input for quarterly program reviews and donor reports. Capacity Building • Provide ongoing support to project staff and community participants on community engagement practices. • Build the capacity of project-level partners to ensure timely and high-quality engagement activities. • Collaborate with colleagues at the Dallaire Institute to amplify the dissemination of messages about our work and how community members can support children and their families. • Increase community engagement through outreach activities. Meet with community members, deliver presentations, represent the Dallaire Institute at local meetings, and create tools, fact sheets, presentations, and templates. Learning and Knowledge Sharing • Organize end-of-project review meetings, document and share lessons learned and recommendations for future programming. • Support the project team in using engagement data for decision-making. • Prepare summary reports on community engagement activities and disseminate them internally. • Build relationships with relevant stakeholders in the country, such as school districts, law enforcement, child protection services, and other child protection actors. • Create and maintain a local resource bank accessible to project staff, the Dallaire Institute, and other stakeholders. • Other duties as assigned. | Community Development | • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, including social sciences, community development, international development or related disciplines. • Minimum of 2 years of experience in community engagement, facilitation or related fields. • At least 1 year of experience in managing or coordinating community dialogues or consultations. • Prior volunteer experience or professional experience in community development or volunteer coordination is highly desirable.
