PATH's program on malaria and neglected tropical diseases is at the forefront of efforts to eradicate malaria and related deaths. It refines and develops tools and approaches, invests in national programs, and collects data to empower national governments to combat malaria. 

PATH is seeking a Capacity Building and Quality Assurance Coordinator for the global REACH Malaria project ( Reaching every at- risk community and household with malaria services), funded by the U.S. Government (USG). REACH aims to provide implementation support services and technical assistance to countries to accelerate progress in the comprehensive delivery of life-saving health services at the community and facility levels, including malaria case management, malaria prevention during pregnancy, data collection and use for service delivery, and other malaria prevention interventions .   

 

The Coordinator in charge of capacity building and quality assurance of care will report to the Technical Advisor on Malaria . He/She will be responsible for ensuring the planning, implementation and monitoring of capacity building and quality assurance activities for the management of malaria at all levels of the health system, in accordance with the guidelines of the National Malaria Control Program ( NMCP) and the PATH standards.

Key Deliverables

  • Support the development and implementation of the capacity-building plan for malaria management at the community level and in the project's health facilities .  
  • Facilitating the implementation of mentoring, coaching, and formative supervision approaches with health districts and healthcare providers 
  • Support the Malaria Technical Advisor in preparing and organizing quality assessments of health care and services to identify areas of performance requiring improvement .  
  • Facilitate the development/ updating of the continuous quality improvement plan for care and coordinate the implementation of the quality assurance system in the structures supported by the project (OTSS, quality reviews, clinical audits) 
  • In collaboration with the monitoring and evaluation team and the project teams established at the provincial level, support the integration of supervision data, logistics data and clinical service data in the organization and delivery of support supervisions. 
  • Facilitate the organisation of joint formative supervisions with the PNLP and local health authorities to strengthen the quality and compliance of services . 
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, the documentation of results and the communication of project progress 
  • Support the documentation , capitalization and dissemination of best practices and learnings in quality of care resulting from the implementation of the project. 
  • Collaborate with PATH's financial and administrative staff to establish training budgets, manage workshop logistics and ensure that activities comply with PATH's accounting practices.  

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities
  • Doctorate in Medicine, or at least a bachelor's degree in nursing or health sciences. 
  • A postgraduate degree in public health is an additional asset. 
  • At least five (5) years of field experience in implementing public health programs supporting malaria control. 
  • Experience working with Ministry of Health staff and good knowledge of health systems and programs in Burundi. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing malaria cases (simple and severe) and intermittent preventive treatment during pregnancy (IPTp). 
  • Proven experience in capacity building for providers and case management according to current protocols and treatment regimens. 
  • Track record in mentoring and supervision for strengthening health services; training in quality improvement approaches; critical thinking and problem-solving skills for program implementation. 
  • Computer skills, including practical experience with MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 
  • Excellent oral and written communication, training, and presentation skills. Willingness to travel within the country about 30-40% of the time. 
  • Legal authorization to work in Burundi is required .
