Job Summary


The Account Reconciliation Officer will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the company’s financial records through timely reconciliation of bank accounts, customer accounts, supplier accounts, general ledger accounts, and other financial balances.

The role will identify discrepancies, investigate variances, and ensure appropriate corrections are made in line with company policies and accounting standards.

Key Deliverables

  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation of bank accounts and other financial accounts.
  • Reconcile customer and supplier accounts and investigate outstanding balances.
  • Compare accounting records with bank statements, invoices, receipts, payment records, and other supporting documents.
  • Identify and investigate discrepancies, unusual transactions, and unreconciled items.
  • Follow up with relevant departments and stakeholders to resolve reconciliation issues promptly.
  • Prepare reconciliation statements and schedules for management review.
  • Ensure all reconciling items are properly documented, investigated, and cleared within agreed timelines.
  • Review general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness of postings.
  • Assist in identifying duplicate, missing, or incorrectly posted transactions.
  • Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all reconciliations.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Assist with audit exercises by providing reconciliation schedules and supporting documents.
  • Monitor outstanding items and prepare periodic reports on unresolved balances.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and applicable accounting standards.
  • Perform other accounting and reconciliation duties as assigned by management.

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities
  • B.Sc. / HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • ICAN qualification or ATS certification is required.
  • 5 -10 years of relevant experience in accounting, reconciliation, audit, or financial operations.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP software.
  • Experience handling high-volume financial transactions and reconciliations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
  • Experience in the downstream oil and gas industry will be an added advantage.
