Job Description

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Burundi and the direct supervision of the Assistant Representative in charge of Programmes, in collaboration with the Coordinator, the CEP Master Trainer assists the Project Coordinator in implementing all activities related to the establishment and management of farmer field schools. The technical supervision he receives focuses on the quality of the work performed and the achievement of the objectives set out in the project document.

The incumbent works closely with the Coordinator and other national and international technical experts on the project within FAO. They interact with a range of internal and external project managers, staff, and collaborators, as well as partners in the field. They coordinate their activities in collaboration with the Project Coordinator, the decentralized services of the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, and local government.

Key Deliverables

Contribute to the development of the annual work program and budget (AWPB) and the project's action plan, and in particular, ensure the budgeting and management of farmer field school programs;
• Develop training modules and organize refresher sessions for master trainers integrating technical, pedagogical/methodological, and cross-cutting themes such as nutrition, sustainable land management (SLM), soil restoration, landscape approach, resilience, and climate change;
• Train and support the DPEAE (Directorates of Agricultural and Environmental Education) to identify and develop relevant farmer field school programs and outreach center (OR) programs on sustainable land management (SLM), crop intensification, and nutrition for the project's intervention areas (a group of 80 extension agents in the twelve project communes, each facilitating 3 farmer field schools, for a total of 240 farmer field schools);
• Organize and lead training and refresher sessions for farmer field school facilitators, including preparation and field follow-up;
• Assist DPEAE staff trained to launch 3 CEP-GDTs each during the first season and provide coaching in the implementation of the CEPs; 
• Ensure quality control and monitoring of CEP facilitators to guarantee the successful implementation of each CEP-GDT;
• Supervise the training of BPEAE master trainers and facilitators in the implementation of a participatory monitoring and evaluation system for CEP activities;
• Support the creation, organization, and operation of pilot CEPs on livestock; 
• Contribute to initiating visibility activities related to the activities of the CEP groups; 
• Contribute to the drafting of periodic and ad hoc reports on the project's activities and technical results;
• Perform any other tasks requested by management.

Professional Qualifications

Industry Qualification
Human Resource Management Master's degree (or equivalent) in agronomy, rural economics, environment and climate change, sustainable agriculture, development economics, or related fields, supplemented by a certificate of mastery of the community participatory approach validated by an accredited Master Trainer. • Minimum 7 years of experience in planning and implementing CEP activities. • Fluency in French and intermediate knowledge of English. • Must be a Burundian national.
