Our client, a power infrastructure company, is looking for a Steam System Engineer in Kenya to join their team 

The Job

As the Steam System Engineer, you will be responsible for planning all maintenance activities such as Condition Based Maintenance and preventive maintenance for High pressure boilers, steam turbine, condensers, water treatment plant and all accessories associated with generation of steam. 

High Pressure Boilers.  

• Operation of High-pressure boilers Maintenance of the boiler soot blowers including all the racks, lances. Sealing fans, isolation valves and pneumatic actuated valves  
• Checking for all thermal movements of the high-pressure pipes for any stresses. 
• Boiler drums inspections and corrosion control and magnetite layer formation on the drum including the steam separator  
• Blow down systems repair and maintenance including servicing of all valves and inspection and control of the blow down tank plus all the accessories related to the system.  
• Checking of the level gauges and flashing the system to maintain the right and accurate level of the water at all times and also inspection of the valves related to the system.  
• Checking for any soot formation in the boiler tubes and arranging for wet water washing to avoid the issue of soot fire in the system and improving the performance of the unit. 
• Inspection and calibration of the boiler dampers and any maintenance involved to it.  
• Checking of boiler tubes for any internal and external corrosion related to the environment and also quality of the system. 
• Steam headers inspection for all types of corrosion related to the system including the main headers and all auxiliary headers in the plant  
• Inspection and repair of all the valves related to the system  
• Feed water system inspection and maintenance of the high- and low-pressure pumps in the system and repair.  
• Checking of the boiler control system including the level control, level gauge and water control system  
• Repair of the boiler dozing pumps and calibration. 
• Yearly inspection of the high-pressure vessel and safety valves as per the government regulations  
• Carrying out monthly inspection of the fire tube boiler as stipulated in the manual. 
• Condensate system water tanks and check for any contamination including oil ingress  
• Quality control of the boiler chemistry in collaboration to the laboratory  
• Operation and maintenance of Demineralization plant and Mini Ro plant for domestic water consumption.  

Steam Turbine. 

• Checking for the lube oil system, maintenance of the Main lube oil emergency and control pumps any vibration, leaks and any other jobs related to the same. Checking of lube oil cooler for any systems leaks and clogging of the system. And all maintenance related to the lube oil system. 
• Trouble shooting and solving the turbine issues where ever they arise  
• Maintenance and Inspection of the turbine control valves emergency steam valve and control valves  
• Turbine gland steam control operation and maintenance  
• Gear box inspection for any vibrations and corrosion. and also, rotor turning device  
• Rotor inspection and maintenance for any cracks, alignment, corrosion and any other jobs related to the rotor   
• Performing the minor and minor revision steam turbine maintenance as stipulated in the manual.  
• Checking the quality of steam as per the manual and safeguarding the turbine against any form of corrosion and deposits.  

Other tasks  

• Performing any other duties assigned by the General Manager and Maintenance Manager. 
• Engine preventive maintenance and Corrective maintenance services works and its auxiliaries.  
• Attending to any breakdown both planned and unplanned maintenance 

We are offering the successful candidate a monthly basic salary of KES 145,000 and additional monthly allowances
